ANDY Wilde has already seen the benefits of buying a new set of irons after scoring a hole in one at Saddleworth Golf Club.
The ace came at the 126-yard, par three 15th during a Saturday Winter League fixture.
He hit the perfect nine iron and Wilde, who has just recently purchased a new set of irons, was delighted with how his purchase has increased his distance and accuracy and his game has continued to improve since he received his new irons.
Competition continues to be intense in the three Winter Leagues at Saddleworth.
Richard Hughes heads the Tuesday standings with 67 points from Les Thompson (66), Ken Shadford (57) and Phil Bennett (52).
It is even tighter at the top of the Saturday competition with Jon Givvons leading the way with 39 points from Paul Black (38), Gary Simpson and Howard Johnson (both 37).
Martin Orme (68) has a healthy lead in the Sunday event from Phil Ramsker (54), Ken Mills (43), Phil Sheerin (42) and Martin Orme (40).
On the day Wilde scored his hole in one, the Saturday four-ball betterball Stableford was won by Mark Heginbotham and Ian Gregory with 47 points on the card from father-and-son Paul and Adam Rowbotham.
Third were Anthony McNamara and Phil Bennett (45) while fourth place went to Andy Li and Howard Johnson (44).
Nick Marner and John Givvons posted an 11-under-par 60 in a Saturday Winter League four-ball medal.
Ian and Dave Charnock were runners-up with 61 while third place went to Steve Harrington and Martin Heap (62) on the card from Dave Stephens and Jeff Platt.
In the most recent Saturday Winter League American Foursomes, the winners were Paul Saxon and Mark Heginbotham with 62.5.
Runners-up were Terry Walsh and Nigel Kippax (64) on the card Paul Black and Michael Taylor (64). Fourth were Peter Grundy and Malcolm Stott (64.5).
Graham Bearpark made light of the wet and windy weather to post an impressive 43 points in a singles Stableford in the Tuesday Winter League.
Vice-captain Steve Asquith was runner-up with 41 while third was Shadford (40).
Les Thompson racked up an impressive 42 points to win a singles Stableford in the Winter League from runner-up Asquith with 39.
Despite the hard first and winter greens, Chris Cunniffe and Li amassed 49 points to emerge victors in a Sunday event.
Runners-up were Matt and Dave Chapman (47) on the card from Mark Orme and Lee Blainey. Fourth were Joe Ridley and Ben Simpson.
The last Sunday Winter League event, a four-ball betterball Stableford, was won by Martin Orme and Tony Isaacs with 46 points on the card from Alex Jackson and Adam McKenna. Third were Stuart Chamberlain and Tony McNamara (45).
