A CHEQUE for £3,000 was presented to the Oldham Bereavement Support Service by kind hearted fundraisers from the Saddleworth Women’s Institute.

They presented the money at their first meeting of this year after raising the amount over the last 12 months through fundraising events and generous donations.
And members voted to continue supporting the same charity, which offers free bereavement counselling services to adults and children, throughout 2014.
Marjorie Gratton, vice chair of the Oldham Bereavement Support Service, said the money will be spent on furniture, games and equipment for their centre, as well as training more volunteers.
She said: “We tell everybody wherever we go how good you are to us and we are so grateful for everything you do.”
Bill Barlow, chair of the charity, which celebrated 25 years last year, added: “We are really thankful for your support.”
Meanwhile, plans are well underway for the fourth Shop Local Festival at theUppermill Civic Hall organised by the Saddleworth WI and Saddleworth Parish Council.
The free event will be held on Sunday, March 16 from 10am to 4pm and sees local retailers showcase their products over two floors as well as raising funds for charities.
Shop Local 2013 proved a massive hit with stallholders and welcomed more than 700 visitors who helped raised more than £1,000 for charity.
And the WI’s subgroups are busy planning their next events, which will include aCineworld visit to see Warhouse this month, walks across the area and a book list for the reading group.
The Singing Group meet on the last Wednesday of the month and a newly-formed Handicraft and Cake group is now up and running.
