TO WELCOME in 2014, the Saddleworth Women’s Institute will present their annual cheque to charity at their first meeting of the year on Wednesday, January 8 at the Saddleworth Hotel.
Their chosen charity for 2013, the Oldham Bereavement Support Service, will receive all the profits from fundraising events and generous donations throughout last year.
Members voted at the December meeting to continue supporting the same charity this year.
The evening will be rounded off with the group’s popular January quiz, and please note that annual subscriptions to the WI are due at this meeting.
Meanwhile, plans are well undersea for the fourth Shop Local Festival at the Uppermill Civic Hall organised by the Saddleworth WI and Saddleworth Parish Council.
The event will be held on Sunday, March 16 from 10am to 4pm and sees local retailers showcase their products as well as raising funds for charities.
Shop Local 2013 proved a massive hit with stallholders and welcomed more than 700 visitors who helped raised more than £1,000 for charity.
For further information and/or to book one of the 40 stalls, please e-mail tricia.leigh@btinternet.com or call 07866 541560.
Then on Saturday, June 21, the WI is holding a charity Comedy Night at the Off the Rails Comedy Club at the The Royal George in Greenfield. Tickets will be on sale as from the beginning of April.
Saddleworth WI meets on the Wednesday of each month at the Saddleworth Hotel from 7.30pm. New members and guests are always welcome, and non-members can attend up to three meetings before joining. We ask for a voluntary donation of 50p from members and £2 from non-members per meeting towards running costs and refreshments.
Further details of forthcoming events, activities, subgroups and a programme of speakers can be found on the WI website www.saddleworthwi.com
