MORE THAN 50 young athletes took to the track and field for the annual Saddleworth Junior Schools’ Athletics Competition at Churchill Playing Fields, an event won by St Chads.
With great energy and enthusiasm, the pupils from St Chads, Holy Trinity Dobcross, Knowsley and Greenfield Primary took part in a range of events cheered on by parents and teachers.
The disciplines of running, throwing and jumping formed the competition and St Chads won the trophy, with a very strong turn out and some very committed performances.
Saddleworth Runners organised the event and around 20 members were out on the day marshalling the competitions.
A spokesperson said: “This is an annual opportunity for young people to compete again other schools and have a taste of what is involved and the rewards of taking part in sport.”
The event is also supported by Oldham Council with the aim of promoting sport for young people.
