The accolade reads: “A sleepy Lancashire village may not be where you expect to find a record-holding gin joint.

“But inside this 18th century pub is a fully-fledged Gin Emporium, stocking (at the last count) 404 different varieties from around the world.”

And the guide refers to the roadside property earning the top place in the Guinness Book of World Record’s list of  “most gins commercially available.”

The latest tribute delighted owner, Phil Whiteman, who has worked patiently with his team to provide the hundreds of gins which rocketed them into the record books.

Proud Phil said: “The reality is we’ve got 600 different gins now, which is absolutely fantastic.

“And I’ve just been contacted by a company selling the first Italian dry gin who want us to stock their product.

“My team and I are so proud of this latest achievement. We already felt privileged to be part of Guinness World Record holders family and this additional recognition is marvellous.”

The emporium shelves are stacked with every variety of gin, including one garnished with seaweed to a specially-designed recipe from a top Copenhagen restaurant – featuring extract of ant.

The inn also boasts a choice of ten different tonics to compliment the gins, alongside herbs specially grown at the inn to add to the flavour.

Phil added: “Our evenings of gin tasting allow everyone to get to know all about our different gins. The Old Bell Inn is becoming a destination place for gin.”
