Bright Futures School was presented with the cheque by Tessa Wiley from the Big Lottery Fund after a successful application by the school’s PTA Friends of Bright Futures School (FBFS).

The generous donation from the Lottery’s Awards for All Programme, which offers grants up to £10,000, will fund a training course for parents of children with autism and professionals who work with them.

Alison Hughes, Chair of FBFS, said: “We are delighted that FBFS has secured such a fantastic grant and it has been a pleasure to welcome Tessa Wiley to present the special cheque.

“The training workshops, which can now be run thanks to this grant, will make a huge difference to parents and teachers as it will empower them to secure the right provision.”

Recent guidelines from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence recommend social communication work is undertaken to help address difficulties at the heart of autism.

The workshops, which are expected to start next Spring, will look at how parents can use a social communication approach and how to secure provision in a child’s Education, Health and Care Plan.
