Banish the dog dirt

I AM fed up of standing in dog dirt and wheeling my pram wheels through dog dirt. A resident of Diggle is letting their dog fowl the pavements along Huddersfield Road daily. Myself, neighbours and local businesses are getting fed up with it.

I am writing to remind the minority of bad owners to clean up after their animals.
In reality there shouldn’t be a problem – you own a dog, it eats, it poos, you clean it up. Failing to do so is anti-social, smelly and can spread diseases.

Fix the Footpath

THE IMPORTANT public footpath on the banks of the River Tame between Carr Lane/Bridge Street and Spring Street in Uppermill has been closed for months after a landslip.

I am disgusted Oldham Council seems to have done nothing for months to reinstate this well used footpath.

I, along with many other Saddleworth residents, am supporting Local Liberal Democrat Councillor John McCann who is demanding urgent action by Oldham Council.

Oldham Council has to stop hiding behind excuses and send the workers out to repair the footpath. They need to do the work, and then recover the cost from the responsible party, otherwise the path could be closed for years.

I know the path is not only a popular route for many local walkers but also a safe, traffic-free route for people walking into Uppermill.

The footpaths in the area are one of the great assets that Saddleworth has – people living here want to be able to enjoy our green spaces.

It’s time Oldham Council understood what makes our rural villages special, and different from urban Oldham.

I hope your readers will join me in supporting John’s campaign. To help us fight for the footpath they should contact either myself (alan@belmore.co.uk or 07880 002268) or John (john.mccann@oldham.gov.uk).
