Residents urged to have say on proposed Council Tax reduction scheme

OLDHAM RESIDENTS are urged to have their say on Oldham Council’s proposed Council Tax Reduction (CTR) scheme for 2015-16 before the consultation deadline at the end of September.

In April 2013 Oldham’s local scheme offered up to a 75 per cent reduction on the Council Tax due on a Band A property.

In 2014 the scheme was revised to increase the amount of financial support – up to 80 per cent on a Band A property – meaning residents pay less.

Now the local authority wants to hear from residents about what they should do in the future and about the financial support they may have received in 2014.

Councillor Abdul Jabbar, Oldham Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Human Resources, said: “It is very important residents take part in this consultation as it will help us assess the impact our Council Tax Reduction Scheme is having locally.

“Your feedback will help us make decisions on changes that may or may not be may not be made to the scheme in the future.

“They will also help us plan services and activity to support residents who may be adversely affected by any changes.”

Residents can take part in the consultation anonymously until the deadline of September 30 and all information will be treated confidentially.

To take part in the consultation log onto www.oldham.gov.uk/CTR201516 or ask for a printed form in Access Oldham or call 0161 770 5062.
