AN INTERNATIONALLY renowned string quartet, is being hosted by Saddleworth Concerts Society at Millgate Arts Centre, Delph on Wednesday, December 5.
The outstanding Danel Quatuor (quartet) was formed in 1991 since when it has become a major force on the international chamber music scene.
The French musicians have gained top honours at international competitions in Evian, St. Petersburg and London.
Quatuor Danal is renowned for its bold concentrations of chamber music and its lively and fresh vision on the traditional quartet repertoire and contemporary composers has delivered praise from both public and press.
In great demand, the ‘fab four’ give more than 80 concerts each year in some of the most famous concert-halls of the world.
The quartet’s current diary will take it to Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Madrid, Vienna, Hamburg, Milan, Taipei, Tokyo, New York, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
An important part of each year is education when the quartet is in residence at Manchester University.
They also teach regularly in Amsterdam as well as having given classes at colleges in America, Taipei, Lyon, Lille and Nice.
One of its special strengths is the Russian repertoire.
Among its most acclaimed recordings are the complete Shostakovich and Weinberg quartets.
This concert is not to be missed especially as the programme includes Russian and east European music as well Schubert’s quartet Death and the Maiden.
