Armed police swoop on Greenfield as four arrested over assault and drug offences

TWO men and two women have been arrested on suspicion of assault and drugs related offences following a firearms incident in Greenfield.

Shortly before 3:25pm on Friday 16 November 2018, police were called to Ladhill Lane, close to Greenfield Club to reports that a man had been threatened and assaulted.

It was further reported that a firearm had been brandished during the incident.

Due to the nature of the incident, armed police responded and, following further enquiries at two addresses, two men and two women were arrested on suspicion of assault and drugs related offences. The four remain in custody for questioning.

A quantity of class A and class B drugs and firearms were also seized at the addresses.

Scenes have been in place at Grove Street and Chew Brook Drive in Oldham throughout Friday evening and Saturday.

“Chief Inspector John Haywood, of GMP’s Oldham Borough, said: “Following reports of a serious assault in Greenfield yesterday afternoon, officers swiftly responded and carried out enquiries in the local area which resulted in the arrest of two men and two women as well as a seizure of class A, class B drugs and a firearm.

“This swift response and subsequent seizure of drugs and firearms is a positive result for the Saddleworth community.

“We will be continuing with our enquiries today but I want to thank the public for their continued patience and support.”
