Murder most foul: Saddleworth setting for soap killing (again)

ANOTHER grizzly ‘murder’ has taken place in Greenfield.

But even though a nasty gangster’s gruesome death was seen by millions, it’s not been easy for the police to nail the culprit.

For the second time in 10 months Saddleworth has been the scene of a gory slaying.

Happily though it’s all make believe, the vivid imagination of Coronation Street script writers.

The Independent exclusively revealed in August how soap stars and crew travelled to Robert Fletcher & Sons Paper Mill for three days of filming.

Access to the private mill road was restricted at both ends by security staff.

A number of public footpaths were closed while five speed bumps on the road were removed and potholes filled in.

And it’s a good job they were as in the previous killing of mechanic Luke Britton by psychopath Pat Phelan last January, these latest dramatic scenes involved a high-speed car chase.

In the lead vehicle were Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and her two sons, Ali Neeson (Jamie Burrows) and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott).

In pursuit was baddie Ronan Truman, played by actor Alan McKenna, implicating the trio in the death of his son, Cormac.

A taxi carrying Leanne Battersby (actress Jane Danson) also travelled to the secluded location with near fateful consequences.

Initially, Ryan was left fighting for his life after jumping out of the Connors’ car to plead for forgiveness and subsequently being mown down by Truman.

As Leanne arrives on the scene Truman reverses into the eldest Battersby sister who is subsequently left fighting for her life.

Drugs lord Truman makes off quickly only to crash his car into a tree.

Ali then arrives on the scene, initially to help but with Truman still threatening revenge and poised to shoot him, pulled the fence post that was impaling Truman out of his abdomen.

Ali then lied to the paramedics arriving at the scene and said that Ronan had pulled the post out himself before later confessing his crime to hysterical mum.

Who knew it all happened in Saddleworth!?

• Saddleworth has become a go to venue for television production crews searching for location shoots.

So for any fans of Peaky Blinders keep a close eye out when series five of the hugely successful BBC series is broadcast.

The cameras travelled upto Dovestone Reservoir in September to shoot some scenes. Body in the lake maybe?
