A WEBSITE is a company’s chance to differentiate itself from competitors while also promoting its products and services to current and potential customers.

The aim is not just for your potential customers to visit, but also for them to stick around. An inviting home page with eye-catching visuals and a user-friendly interface is sure to boost engagement.

With this in mind, we would like to share a few useful tips to consider when building your company website.

Firstly, ensure the design is not over complicated. When people visit your site they want all the information they need and fast. If they are not able to find what they need and may leave after only a few seconds.

The usability also has a huge impact on whether people stay or go. If someone can’t figure out how to use it, they will find another page instead.

Similarly, if your site is outdated people may choose to look elsewhere. Studies have even shown people perceive an outdated or poorly designed website as less trustworthy.

Ensure your content is easy to read. If it can’t be quickly digested, prospective customers will not convert into paying customers. Stick to simple and clean font colours and styles. As for font size, bigger is usually better.

Additionally, stay away from overwhelming ads. If your site relies on adverts, consider limiting the number. Ads should not distract from the important information.

Also, make sure your site does not take too long to load. To do this, keep your homepage clean and simple and avoid having lots of different plugins.

If it takes more than a minute or so to load a site, people will not wait around. Studies show 47 per cent of consumers expect a web page to load in two seconds or less.

Add links to your social media sites to keep the conversation with your customers constant. You could also feature a blog on your site to give handy tips and advice around your area of expertise.

Finally, ensure your website is mobile responsive. People frequently use their phones and tablets to browse the web and Google penalises websites that are not mobile friendly, placing them further down the search results.
