Badminton club looks to expand

SADDLEWORTH Badminton Club is hoping to form a second team in the 2018/19 season.

There are different options being considered by the club to expand its presence in the Oldham and Rochdale Badminton League.

One is a joint venture with Lydgate Badminton Club as both are based at Saddleworth School on Wednesday and Monday nights respectively.

Lydgate struggled with injures and played with depleted numbers last season and struggled to fulfil all their fixtures.

A combination may see the clubs enter two teams between them next season.

The only match in June was a friendly against Lancashire Rackets ‘B’. The two teams had met twice in the regular season, with Saddleworth victorious on both occasions. However, on a very warm evening in June it was a much tougher test.

Lancashire fielded several strong pairings and it ended in a 9-9 draw.

Lancashire Rackets ‘B’ have broken away from the other Lancashire Racket teams and are now based at Failsworth Sports Centre.

If you are interest in playing badminton, socially or in the league, and you have played badminton before then come to Saddleworth School on Wednesday evenings. For more details, email or call 07949 346347.
