Badminton set for new season

THE new season is here and Saddleworth has doubled the number of teams in the Oldham and Rochdale Badminton League.

Saddleworth’s ‘A’ will remain in the second division and the new team ‘B’ team will enter the league in the third division. Both teams will be bolstered as several of the former Lydgate Badminton Club players have joined the ranks.

The ‘B’ team open their account against Bury, an unknown quantity as they are also a new team.

Bury have some of the former Alpha Whitworth ‘A’ team registered so the match is anticipated to be a tough opener.

The ‘A’ team that finished third last season, just missing out on automatic promotion, will play Kingsway Phoenix ‘A’ in their first fixture. Kingsway is a rebranded team and last season played under the name of Tara ‘A’. Saddleworth ‘A’ lost in both fixtures to Tara ‘A’ last season, so like the ‘B’ team, it will be a tough introduction to the new season.

If you want to play badminton, Saddleworth is always looking for new players – team and social players.

If you have played before and mastered the basics then why not come down to try a few sessions. You can play socially as well every Wednesday.

The club has a range of ages and abilities from 17 to 70 years.

They play at Saddleworth School sports hall on Wednesday between 8pm and 10pm.
