Beauty and the best! Panto returns to Millgate

AFTER last year’s success of Jack and the Beanstalk, Saddleworth’s own pantomime returns to the Millgate Arts Centre, Delph this December. For Idle Jack in 2018, substitute Sleeping Beauty with panto masterminds Will Cousins and Ben Richards, promising an even greater treat for audiences this year.

“After last year’s success we had 2,000 professional actors apply for a part in Sleeping Beauty,” said Will.

“We spent a week auditioning in Manchester and London and were able to assemble an unbelievably strong cast,” added Ben.

Playing Dame this year is Robert Styles, who has previously starred in West End musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Robert enthused: “I am so excited about playing Nurse Nanny this Christmas. I have always loved Saddleworth.

“So, when I heard other actors talking about how good your panto was, I knew I needed to audition.”

Last year over 3,000 people came to see the first ever professional panto at the Millgate.

Tim Newbold, who produces Saddleworth Live, explained: “The response from audiences was amazing.

“The show completely sold out and we ended up turning people away. That is why this year we’re putting on an extra four shows to make sure everyone gets a chance to see it.

“But don’t leave it too late to book – some shows have already sold out.”
