A FANTASTIC £1,400 was raised for charities as discerning drinkers turned out in force for the biggest Saddleworth Beer Festival to date.
A lip-smacking line-up of 20 old favourite and new brews along with ciders was on offer from local and regional breweries at the popular annual event at the Civic Hall.

The most popular brews were Jaipur, Silver Owl from Greenfield Brewery, Salopian Lemon Dream, Millstone Tiger Rut and Mary Jane from Ilkley Brewery.
And they were enjoyed by a record number of visitors at the two-day festival, which is in aid of Royal British Legion, MIND and the Saddleworth Parish Council’s Chairman’s chosen charities.
Peter Archer, of the organisers, said: “Friday was the best night we have had in the six years we have been doing the festival.
“Saturday was a little quieter because there were people watching rugby games elsewhere – but it was still steady.
“It was a great success overall and we raised around £1,400 and that’s a good result for the charities.
“I want to thank all the wonderful supporters and everybody who was involved in the organisation of it. A lot of hard work goes into getting it right.”
And he added that a new key keg system being tested out for the first time went down a treat, with around 80 per cent of the beer served through the system being sold.
There was also supper, live entertainment, a raffle, and a host of mini market stalls from local businesses for guests to enjoy.
