A BITTERSWEET and heart-warming observational comedy is coming to Oldham Coliseum for one night only in aid of Mahdlo Youth Zone.
‘September In The Rain’ by award-winning playwright John Godber will be staged on Thursday, January 28 at the Fairbottom Street theatre.
The production by Little Diamond Theatre Company – a new troupe based in the North West – will bring to life miner Jack and his wife Liz on their annual family holidays to Blackpool.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go to support the future work Mahdlo Youth Zone does with the young people of Oldham.
Mahdlo, based on Egerton Street, is open seven days a week to provide young people with activities, opportunities and support.
Development Manager Claire Crossfield said: “As a charity, we rely heavily on the support and generosity of local businesses and the community.
“Our Get Creative offer at Mahdlo encourages young people to embrace creative arts so to have Little Diamond supporting us through a one-off theatre production is wonderful!”
Sarah Burrill, founder of Little Diamond Theatre Company, added: “I believe every town should have some form of club for our youngsters to go to.
“In my era, most of us spent our youth trailing the streets in search of entertainment. Mahdlo offers an amazing range of activities, and people to talk to.
“Listening to the young people tell their stories, it’s startlingly clear some of them face massive challenges in everyday life. You cannot fail to want to help in some small way. This is LDTC’s small way.”
Kevin Shaw, Artistic Director and CEO, Oldham Coliseum Theatre, said: “The Coliseum is always pleased to support other charities in our area that work hard to serve the town.
“We’re delighted to welcome Little Diamond Theatre Company for their production as a fundraiser for our neighbours at Mahdlo to help their work with young people.”
Tickets are priced £15/£13 and are on sale now. You can book online or by calling the Oldham Coliseum box office on 0161 624 2829.
