KENYA COFFEE – everyone loves it – it’s just wonderful and probably the one with the most distinctive aroma of them all, rich and chocolately.
At TOAST, we stock two types of Kenyan coffee; the one we are featuring this month is KENYA PEABERRY coffee.
This single origin coffee from Kenya’s Central Province is crafted purely from prized Peaberries. Peaberry beans occur naturally when only one bean inside the coffee cherry is fertilised (usually there are two halves of a bean within a single cherry).
Many consider Peaberries to be more flavourful than regular varieties of bean, and this is reflected in the harvesting and roasting process. Kenya Peaberry is harvested using a special sieve to painstakingly separate the small percentage of Peaberries from the more commonplace twin beans. We have applied a medium-to-dark roast to carefully bring out the Peaberries’ rich taste profile.
This is a coffee for those who enjoy the pleasant sharpness of African coffees and desire more of a fruity, winey flavour. With its wonderful medley of ripe tropical fruits, a tangy acidity and crisp, clean aftertaste, it’s a refreshing alternative to regular Kenyan coffee. Best when brewed in a cafetiere or filter and taken black or with just a splash of cold milk.
Wine recommendation: Chateau Cornelia GRIS-GRIS ROSE from Roussilon in France
Vin Gris traditionally refers to a wine made from red wine grapes, but with white winemaking practices. So, instead of fermenting the grapes with their skins, the wine is made from the juice, which will be mostly clear but with a pink tinge.
OK, so GRIS-GRIS is a great name but the most important thing is the wine itself, of course! This wine has arrived like a breath of fresh air and is far outselling everything else here at TOAST.
Elegant, seductive, easy to drink, this really is the Rose of the year for us. A wine made from grapes of Grenache and Syrah, close to the sea and harvested at night to keep the freshness. It’s dangerously good.
