A PASSIONATE chef from Dobcross is bringing an authentic Indian flavour to the area as he shares mouth-watering recipes and gets ready to unveil his new products.
Sukhi Singh, whose family have run the village post office for 16 years, launched his website blog ‘Cooking with Sukhi’ last December and reveals a new recipe every Wednesday.
And he says the simple, tasty, authentic Indian recipes inspired from his family’s Punjabi heritage are already going down a treat.
He explained: “I started cooking when I was around 12 at school and instantly fell in love with it. My whole family are big foodies and my parents taught me a lot.
“A lot of people come into the post office asking for recipes and tips so I decided to launch my website to put the traditional flavours of India back on the map.
“With us being second and third generations in England finding good, tasty recipes is proving difficult. If I don’t share the recipes, and teach my children, they will die out.
“I wanted to share real Indian recipes you can cook at home – with my own twist of course. And I’ve simplified some of the recipes to cut down on time and ingredients needed.
“I’ve had a lot of positive feedback so far,” he added. “Many customers have told me they’ve tried and enjoyed my recipes. I’ve had messages from people all over the world too!”
And Sukhi, who has appeared on Master Chef and Food Glorious Food admitted: “I used to hate sharing my recipes when I had worked so hard to perfect them!
“But now I feel it’s time to share them and I want everyone to enjoy them.”
His followers on Facebook, Instagram and his website are building rapidly as people visit to see the mouth-watering images, videos and blog he posts as well as the weekly recipes.
Now Sukhi is ready to take his hobby to the next level and has put the post office up for sale so he can concentrate on developing a food business alongside his luxury events company.
He is launching his first curry paste, which achieved two gold stars at the Great Taste Awards 2015, this summer and has other products lined up to follow.
The entrepreneur has already launched ‘Simply Saddleworth’ white and red wines, which are to celebrate living in the area and are available at the post office.
