A POPULAR Lees pub will remain closed for several more months after unexpected complications with renovation work forced its reopening to be pushed back until June 2027.
The Grapes closed in September for essential roof repairs and refurbishment, with management initially hoping to welcome customers back in November or December.
However, problems uncovered during the building work, together with delays involving council permissions, have disrupted the original timetable.

In an update to customers, Wayne, Sharon and the team apologised for the lack of communication, explaining that they had only recently learned the full extent of the setbacks.
They said: “Unfortunately, things haven’t gone quite to plan, and we’ve now been advised that the intended reopening date is looking more like June.”
The announcement follows speculation that the pub could remain closed until Christmas 2027, something the team said was not supported by the information they had received.
While June is now the target, management stressed that a definite date cannot be given until the work is completed.
They added: “We know how much The Grapes means to so many of you, and believe us, we miss you all just as much!
“We miss our customers, our friends, the familiar faces, the laughs, and everything that makes The Grapes what it is.”
The team thanked regulars for their continued messages of support and promised to provide further updates through the pub’s Facebook page as soon as more information becomes available.
Reassuring customers about its future, they said: “We WILL be back at The Grapes!”
