RESIDENTS across Saddleworth are being encouraged to get creative with their festive decorations as the Parish Council prepares for its annual Christmas Illuminations Competition.
Saddleworth Parish Council has confirmed that judging will take place on Wednesday, December 16, from 5.30pm, with judges touring villages across the area to admire this year’s displays.
The popular competition celebrates the efforts of residents, businesses and community groups who help bring festive cheer to Saddleworth each Christmas.
There are four categories in this year’s competition:
- Best illuminated shop window
- Best illuminated residential property
- Best illuminated pub
- Best illuminated community project
From traditional decorations and colourful light displays to imaginative Christmas scenes, judges will be looking for creativity and festive spirit.
The Parish Council is encouraging those wishing to take part to start preparing their displays ahead of the judging evening.
A spokesperson said the council was looking forward to seeing the decorations and thanked everyone who helps make Saddleworth sparkle during the festive season.

Judging will take place throughout Saddleworth on December 16, with entrants encouraged to have their lights switched on and displays ready from 5.30pm.
