Business stalwarts to be honoured in new awards scheme

A NEW awards scheme to recognise individuals who have gone ‘above and beyond’ for small firms and entrepreneurs has been launched by a leading employer support organisation.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has introduced the scheme to show support and recognise those who work tirelessly to make a difference across the region – and beyond.

Monthly awards will be presented to winners with a certificate commending their efforts, with details to be published on the FSB website, member newsletters, and on social media.

FSB Regional Chairman for Manchester and North Cheshire Richard Gregg said:“We’re seeking people, whatever their age, position or standing, who’ve done something special on behalf of either a small business, or the wider SME community in general.

“This might be a community stalwart or councillor who has successfully campaigned for free parking in their town centre, an MP who has gone the extra mile for businesses or even a school or teacher that has offered a helping hand to local businesses in their neighbourhood.

“The only criteria is that the nominated person must reside in the Greater Manchester or North Cheshire region, as does the business or businesses their efforts have helped.”

He added: “Small businesses are the lifeblood of the UK economy, and the FSB thinks it is crucial to reward and recognise those who have pitched in and helped in a special way.

“It is small firms who will deliver the jobs and growth in local economies throughout the region so we must do everything we can to create a fertile environment where they can thrive and prosper.

“An award scheme like this will hopefully encourage more people to get involved and give small businesses a welcome push.”

To nominate a person or organisation for an FSB Business Buddy Award, email details to: robert.downes@fsb.org.uk. The inaugural recipient will be announced in November.
