BUSINESSES up and down the high street are helping to ‘Paint Uppermill Pink’ for a week to raise funds and awareness for Prevent Breast Cancer.
The charity, which is the only one in the UK entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, is running the campaign at the start of breast cancer awareness month in October.
So from Monday, September 30 to Sunday, October 6, shops throughout Uppermill will transform their windows with pink displays or run pink themed raffles or refreshments, with donations going to the charity.
Uppermill Methodist Church is inviting all to join them for their pink coffee morning on Wednesday, October 2 from 10am-12noon.
Kate Wrigley and Linda Gunner, ambassadors for the charity which is based at The Nightingale Centre in Wythenshawe, are behind the project.
Kate explained: “We are hoping to the raise the profile of the charity in the area along with fundraising and raising awareness.
“We’ve done the same thing in other areas such as Macclesfield and Hale and that was very successful. We thought Uppermill seems the perfect place to turn pink next and could make the high street look fantastic!
“We’ve had four friends who have been a fantastic help going up and down the high street with us and asking businesses to get involved – and the response has been great.
“They have all been really supportive and most are doing some sort of offer or dressing up their window displays in pink for the week.”
The week will culminate with a special Health and Well-being Night on Friday, October 4 at Uppermill Civic Hall, with doors opening at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
The event will include information from the charity itself, a personal reflection of having a diagnosis of breast cancer, a glimpse into the research currently being undertaken.
Guests will also have the chance to hear from keynote speaker Nick Littlehales, author and leading sleep coach to premiership football teams, Olympic gold medallists and Team Sky cyclists.
There will be drinks on sale for a donation, and a raffle with fantastic prizes. All proceeds go to Prevent Breast Cancer.
Tickets cost £10 each and are available in advance from Linda on 07759 900363 or Kate on 07780 820323.
