A FORMER Greenfield shopkeeper has celebrated her 100h birthday.
Hilda Burrows, who previously ran a paper shop on Manchester Road, marked her big day with a birthday card from the Queen and special cake from the family.
“It wasn’t big enough though for 100 candles,” laughed husband Dougie, helping to celebrate with Saddleworth’s latest centenarian on Thursday, August 29.
The couple, who have been married 27 years, live quietly in village.
But in their younger days Hilda and Dougie, who will be 98 in June 2020, were active bowlers at Friezland.
“We also loved our cruises,” said Dougie. “We were lucky enough to go on quite a few and have plenty of happy memories.”
