Businesses and homes thrown into darkness by electricity power failure

POWER HAS been restored to businesses and properties across Uppermill after they faced disruption overnight due to an electricity power failure.

electricity-north-west-logoDinnerstone, a popular restauarant in The Square off High Street, had to close early after informing guests of the problems on Wednesday, July 6.

Owner Charles Brierley said: “We had to close after the business has been advised that the power will not be back on for at least another 10 hours.”

At the time, a spokesman for Electricity North West Limited, said: “A fault in an underground cable caused 45 properties to lose power at 12.11pm earlier yesterday (Wednesday).

“We have restored supplies to 30 properties by rerouting the network but there are currently 15 still off.

“We have engineers on site who have found the section of the cable underground that needs repairing. They will have to dig up the road to fix it and restore the remaining customers.

“The fault is on Tame Street, Uppermill so we don’t expect to need a big diversion but there will be emergency work tonight to fix the fault. We hope to restore the remaining customers overnight.”

Engineers restored all properties at 12.30am on Thursday morning.
