CANDIDATES WILL contend for residents’ votes in borough elections this May.
On Thursday, May 5 between 7am and 10pm voters can choose who they want to represent them on Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council.
There are 20 wards in the Oldham borough and each elects three borough councillors, with one up for election each year.
Saddleworth is made up of three wards – Saddleworth North, Saddleworth South and Saddleworth West and Lees – and residents vote based on where they live (check your polling card).
Each person has one vote for their preferred candidate in their ward and the candidate with the most votes overall wins.
Voters will receive their polling card in the post which will tell them where their voting station is.
If you cannot get to the ballot box, you can have a postal vote or for a vote by proxy.
The local elections count will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, West Street, Oldham on the night of Thursday, May 5.
The Elections Office has a limited number of tickets available for residents who wish to view the count processes from the public gallery.
Anyone who would like a public ticket should write to the Elections Office, Room 222, Civic Centre, West Street, Oldham, OL1 1UL, stating their name and address.
Requests can also be emailed to election@oldham.gov.uk and tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
