INVESTIGATIONS ARE ongoing to work out what sparked a huge moorland fire in Saddleworth.

The fire, which is believed to have started near Dovestone Reservoir on the evening of Thursday, April 21, sent up plumes of flames and smoke as it spread across the hills.
A spokesperson for GMP confirmed that, after speaking to farmers and locals in the area, the police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
A spokesperson for GM Fire and Rescue Service told the Independent: “No cause of the fire has been established yet and investigations are ongoing.”
Around 10 fire engines and support vehicles were seen at the site, and police were called in to stop the public getting through.
The main concern was for any property lying in the path of the fire but there wasn’t any.
