DRESSED IN brightly coloured t-shirts and bouncing headgear, more than 200 people put themselves through their paces in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile at Dovestone Reservoir.
Boys and girls, young and old – and even a few four-legged friends – tackled the fun sponsored run or walk of one, three or six miles around the Greenfield beauty spot.
Funds raised will benefit Comic Relief, a charity which aims to create a just world, free from poverty.
The event was organised by The Saddleworth Village Olympics (SVO) organising committee and the Saddleworth Runners, with Oldham Mountain Rescue and St John’s Ambulance also helping out on the day.
Martyn Roo, treasurer for the SVO, said: “Around 200 people registered and a few more turned up on the day too – it helped that the weather was so nice.”
Meanwhile, young Ellis Detheridge raised around £100 for Sport Relief as he cycled 2.5 miles around Dovestone Reservoir.
Six-year-old Ellis, whose father Mark is a PSCO at Uppermill Police Station, decided to take on the challenge, supported by his Mum Michaela, after seeing a news reel about children not able to go to school.
