ISHIKA LAMBA has bowled over Greenfield Cricket Club by becoming their first girl player to be selected to play for the Lancashire.
And the club is hoping to use the success of the 14-year-old from Delph to push girls’ cricket at the club.
Ishika, who is primarily a bowler, has been playing cricket at Greenfield for the last three years and has been selected for Lancashire under-15 girls’ squad.
“Ishika has always been willing to learn and is now getting her rewards. We want to use her as a role model for other girls playing cricket,” explained junior coach Fred Bottom.
Greenfield, who have had a number of boys selected to play for Lancashire, are delighted with the progress of the pupil from Hulme Grammar School.
Greenfield last season had about 10 girls who played in the junior sides, but didn’t have enough to form an all-girls’ team which they are hoping to do this summer with a drive to attract primary school children.
Junior coaching at Greenfield for boys and girls begins on April 5th and will run each Saturday until August.
Children aged between six and nine years will be coached between 9am and 10.30am while those aged 10/12 years is from 10.30am until noon.
