Christmas with the Church

By Fr Christopher Halliday

DECEMBER IS a month of preparation for Christmas. The Church celebrates Advent, its season for preparation too.

We sing special Advent Carols and hear special readings in Church which remind us that we are called to be a special community of people who have the task of bringing the message of Jesus to the world.

One of the ways we bring the message to people is in telling the Christmas story. All the Anglican churches in Saddleworth will hold special Carol services as we get nearer to Christmas.

As families we make special arrangements for Christmas with presents and special food to make people feel important at Christmas.

Our Churches are busy collecting presents and food, which we will pass onto the Oldham Food Bank, to the Women’s Refuge and to the Booth Centre for the Homeless.

When you come along to one of our carol services perhaps you might like to add to these collections too.

Christmas is a time of hospitality and we understand that better than most. We celebrate the greatest gift that God could give to us: life through his Son.

So why not join us and receive our hospitality at one of our many services. You will be warmly welcomed whenever you join us.
