Coach raring to go

NEW COACH Chris Hough intends that relegated Waterhead will hit the ground running as they bid to regain their place in National Conference League, Division One.

Though the new league campaign does not kick off until March, pre-season training began this week.

Chris has already met the players and supervised a couple of fitness sessions.

And he has been encouraged by what he has seen declaring: “I have been impressed by the attitude of the players and they seem keen to buy into what I want to do.

“I can’t wait for training to begin and for us to work on our shape and game plan.”

Chris, who is also assistant coach at Rochdale Hornets, added he is excited to be in sole command at Waterhead.

He continued: “That is why I took the post so I could put first-team coach on my CV.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge and trying to get Waterhead back into Division One.”

As Waterhead will have a young side, Chris is looking to make signings to add experience to the side to guide the new generation of players.

“I am talking to a couple of players with a view to strengthening the team. We need old heads to guide the young players,” he continued.

Chris is hoping to organise a number of trial games, possibly one at the end of January.

“You can train as much as you like, but there is nothing which beats game practice,” he concluded.
