Come Rain or shine?

Jon Baylis brings you a five-day forecast for Saddleworth

WHAT EVENTFUL weather we had as July drew to a close.

Thunderstorms and prolonged torrential rain produced some staggering statistics. We recorded 63mm of rain in just over nine hours on one evening, which is almost a month’s worth of rain for July, and during a one-hour period we saw an impressive 20mm, which produced some local flooding.

After yesterday’s humid and very warm weather we go into Friday, August 2 where we could see some rain early on. It will be generally cloudy at first but this will be replaced by brighter and possibly showery weather but also fresher conditions and a steady breeze. Still pleasant at times and highs of 23’C.

Saturday will be a day of scattered showers, which maybe heavy at times, but also with some reasonable sunny spells. Highs of 22’C.

Sunday should start off on quite a sunny note, but cloud will bubble up to give another day of sunshine with the odd shower risk, but hopefully less showers than on Saturday. Highs of 21’C.

As we enter another working week Monday seems to continue in the pattern of sunshine and showers. Some of these could be heavy on the highest hills and breezy in exposed parts. Highs near normal at 20’C.

Tuesday will be a bright day with some sunny spells but still with a shower risk around which could be heavy in some areas. However, feeling pleasant in any of the brightness. Highs of 21’C.

Looking ahead it seems temperatures will try to recover and maybe the weather will settle down in the second week of August. It’s a long way off but looks possible at this current stage.

July 2013 Stats (as of the 31st): Warmest: 28.8′C; Coldest: 10.4’C; Wettest Day: 34.8mm; Windiest: 26mph; Total Rainfall: 91.8mm.
