SADDLEWORTH WILL remember those who have died serving for their country at a range of commemorative services and events.
Services of remembrance will be held at churches across the Parish at the following times:
Thursday, 6 Nov: 4pm at Delph Independent Chapel
Sunday, 9 Nov: 9.30am at Kilngreen Church, Diggle
9.30am: Christ Church, Friezland – six names from the memorial tablet to be remembered in particular by the children. Poppies made by Junior Church to be put on graves in the church yard
10.30am at St. Mary’s, Greenfield
10.30am at St. Thomas’s, Delph
10.45am at St. Anne’s, Lydgate – names from the new memorial stone to be read before the service
10.45am at St. Chad’s, Uppermill
10.45am at Holy Trinity, Dobcross – service with Dobcross Youth Band
At Pots and Pans cenotaph on Sunday, November 9, a service of remembrance will start at 10.45am, led by Rev Godfrey Adams.
The Saddleworth Branch of the Royal British Legion is also holding two short services at the war memorial in Uppermill park on Monday, November 3 at 7.15pm and then on Tuesday, November 11 shortly before 11am.
Meanwhile, on Friday November 7, join the Saddleworth Branch of the Royal British Legion for their annual Remembrance Dinner and reunion at Diggle Band Club.
The event starts at 7pm for a 7.30pm meal, with Diggle Band entertaining with a host of good music.

Also on Friday 7, a Remembrance Dinner will be held at the Delph Club in aid of the Royal British Legion, with a four-course dinner at 7pm.
There will be Remembrance tributes followed by entertainment from local favourites including Gilbert Symes, comedian Johnny Corrigan and Delph Band. Tickets £20 from Delph Band Club or Post Office.
Then on Saturday 8, enjoy an ‘Evening of Nostalgia’ concert at St Mary’s Church Greenfield from 7.30pm in aid of the church and the Royal British Legion.
There will be entertainment from Harmony from Royton featuring Lois Malcolm, Alan Mellor and Lisa Howarth, plus other entertainment. For tickets and more details please contact Pat Bottom: 01457 870436.
Also on Saturday 8, The Saddleworth Male Voice Choir will present their annual Concert of Remembrance at the Civic Hall, Uppermill at 7.30pm.
The choir will sing a selection of favourites followed by a sing-along of popular world war songs. The concert will also include the Act of Remembrance with the Standard Bearer of the Royal British Legion and a reading of the poem ‘For the Fallen’.
The choir’s special guests are Championship Section Milnrow Brass Band, under the baton of Mark Bentham, the Mayor of Oldham and Consort, the Chair of Saddleworth Parish Council and Consort and Chelsea pensioners Denis Shiels and John Walker.

Also on Saturday 8, Love Lydgate is hosting a community social in the Parish Hall from 7pm. The event will start with an interactive talk with ‘WW1 solider’ Tommy Atkins followed by a sing-a-long and supper. Tickets £10 adults, £5 children from Jennifer Greenwood: 01457 877935.
The group is also placing hand-made poppies across the village to create a red ribbon of remembrance and has published a book – ‘The Boys from the top of the Hill – to chronicle 44 local men who died.
Then on Sunday 9, A Remembrance Sunday Walk, led by Chris Maylor, will take place from the Cross Keys Inn, Uppermill, to the Saddleworth War Memorial for the Service of Remembrance.
Walkers should meet at the Cross Keys at 9.30am to depart at 9.45am. Runners will leave at 10am. There will be drinks afterwards back at the Cross Keys Inn.
Meanwhile Greenfield Cricket Club is hosting a Remembrance Sunday Concert featuring Friezland Brass Band, songs and poetry.
All will be welcomed from 12noon with hot soup and members of the Royal British Legion will be in attendance.
Later, all are welcome to a 100th Anniversary Remembrance Concert at Dobcross Band Club at 8pm, featuring Dobcross Silver Band and Dobcross Brass Monkeys.
Tickets cost £3 on the door and proceeds will go towards the bands’ trip to the Menin Gate in Belgium in 2015.
Also on Sunday, at Diggle Band Club, Diggle Band will host their Remembrance Concert at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £6 per person.
And on the same evening, Delph Band will put on a Remembrance Concert at the Delph Band Club at 7.30pm.
