LARGE grants to help local groups and organisations generate renewable power, become more energy efficient or help electricity customers in vulnerable circumstances are up for grabs.
Saddleworth Hydro Sustainability Fund and Electricity North West (ENW) Empowering our Communities Fund are working together to offer the money.
There is £250,000 available in the ENW Fund, with grants available between £1,000 and £50,000.
These complement money from Saddleworth Hydro Sustainability Fund, which offers grants up to £2,000.
The awards have been made possible following further success of their hydro turbine at Dovestone Reservoir in Greenfield.
Community Benefit Societies, Industrial Provident Societies, charities, schools and churches can all apply. There is nothing to stop organisations applying where they will enable a better, eligible project.
Saddleworth Hydro group said: “During this round we particularly welcomes applications that will enable young people to participate in activities concerning renewable energy, reduction of carbon emissions and climate change.
“This supports The Oldham Pledge, which seeks to ensure all Year 7 pupils will be able to contribute to environmental sustainability, among other things.”
Applications for the ENW fund close at midnight on Friday, November 8.
