MORE THAN £1,000 was raised for Help for Heroes as a superb brass band concert launched 2014 with a bang.
The ‘All Star Brass’ evening at the Civic Hall in Uppermill featured guest players from top bands led by Musical Director Derek Broadbent.
Organisers Gilbert Symes and Phil Beckwith chose to donate the £1,114 raised to Help for Heroes for the third year in a row.
Gilbert, of Brighouse and Rastrick Band, also starred in a bass feature for Tyrolean tubas along with John Gillam (Brighouse and Rastrick), Jonny Shaw (Milnrow), Phil Goodwin (Black Dyke) and John Clough (Brighouse and Rastrick).
Guest soloists included Stuart Lingard on cornet (Brighouse and Rastrick), Helen Williams on flugelhorn (Fodens Band), Dave Priestly on trombone (Ashton Band), Ian Twiss on soprano cornet (Brighouse and Rastrick) and Glyn Williams on euphonium (Fodens Band).
