Keen cooks invited to compete in ‘Great Uppermill Fairtrade Bake Off’

KEEN COOKS are invited to take part in Saddleworth’s very own Bake Off on Saturday, March 7 to help raise funds for the 20th Oldham Scouts.

The ‘Great Uppermill Fairtrade Bake Off’, inspired by the hit BBC programme ‘The Great British Bake Off’ invites bakers of all ages and skills to enter, with categories for over or under 16s.

All competitors have to do is bake something for sale at Scouts’ fundraising coffee morning on Saturday, March 7 at Uppermill Methodist Church, remembering to include at least one Fairtrade ingredient.

Everyone who comes to the coffee morning will have the opportunity to taste, judge and vote for their favourite Fairtrade Baker 2015.

Erica Ryan, one of the organisers, explained: “We ran the Bake Off for the first time a few years ago and this will be the 3rd.

“Uppermill Methodist is a Fairtrade Church and this seemed like a great way to make people aware of the range of Fairtrade ingredients available.

“Our Scouts at 20th Oldham have been finding out a bit about the issue of Fairtrade, and taking some action to promote it will help them in gaining their Global Challenge badge.”

To enter the Great Uppermill Fairtrade Bake Off, please visit the website and fill out the entry form, making sure to return it to box at Uppermill Methodist Centre, or email to uppermillfairtradebake@gmail.com no later than 5pm on Friday, March 6.

You will need to include a complete list of ingredients and all baking needs to be at the Church by 9.30am on Saturday morning.

The coffee morning will be held at Uppermill Methodist Church from 10am to 12noon on Saturday, March 7.
