Dementia Friendly Uppermill needs volunteers for a busy 2015

THE Big Lottery-funded Dementia Friendly Uppermill campaign is gearing up to deliver information and support sessions for people living with dementia, their carers, businesses and groups in the area in 2015.How-DFCs-might-look-01

But the team currently supporting this programme is small and so needs volunteers to help deliver these ambitious plans in Saddleworth.

There are two key volunteer roles involved in this programme:

  • ‘Support Services’ to support the smooth running of events for carers and for people living with dementia, making sure everyone feels comfortable, relaxed and involved.
  • ‘Local Representative’ to talk with shops and services about joining the Oldham Dementia Action Alliance and so committing to making their operations part of a Dementia Friendly Community.

They will be calling on local businesses with an information pack and details of staff awareness training, an environment checklist and campaign materials. Training and support will be provided by team members.

Services Manager Helen Morris, who is a Dementia Friends Champion, said: “We are lucky to have attracted some fabulous volunteers already and know they will agree we need a few more to make this campaign the success it deserves to be.”

Anyone who is considering getting involved should call 0161 962 4788 or email DFCGM@alzheimers.org.uk
