CROMPTON STAGE Society is celebrating 50 years of residence at Playhouse 2 and holding a Get Involved Open Day to look ahead to the next 50.
Playhouse 2 is run solely by volunteers, and for this reason the management committee are keen to entice new people in order to preserve its success.
The event will be held on Sunday 14 May at 2pm and will be open to anyone wishing to get involved at the theatre.
After a registration period and a welcome speech those coming along with the intention of acting will be split into small groups to participate in readings of upcoming plays. Following this will be a short ‘showback’ performed by each group.
Meanwhile, there will be representatives from other areas of the theatre, including backstage, lighting and sound, set building, the bar, box office, front of house, who will be available to talk to those wishing to get involved in other ways. Tours of the theatre will also be conducted.
Barbara Micklethwaite, Chairman of Crompton Stage Society, said: “This year we are celebrating 50 years at Playhouse 2 and what better way of marking this milestone than by holding an event that welcomes new people, who will hopefully play a role in the next 50.
“Our doors are always open to new recruits, but by holding an official event we hope that our ‘hidden gem’ becomes more visible to those wishing to get involved.
“After volunteering at Playhouse 2 for more than 20 years myself, I can honestly say I have never looked back and I urge anyone thinking of volunteering to come along and see what we get up to.”
