Exclusive

A CYCLIST who ‘died’ after collapsing outside a Saddleworth public house is looking for the ‘angel’ who saved his life.

Gordon Brown suffered a heart attack and stopped breathing outside the Junction Inn at Denshaw on Tuesday, August 14.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, August 21) Gordon, 59, from Milnrow, will undergo a heart bypass operation at Wythenshawe Hospital.

But he’s determined to get back on his feet as quickly as possible to hopefully meet the doctor who used a defibrillator from Denshaw Village Hall to bring him back to life.

Before his surgery Gordon has contacted the Independent to launch a public appeal to find his unknown medical saviour.

The North West Air Ambulance Service community resuscitation team has also joined the search for the doctor who was driving past the Junction after Gordon’s collapse.

“I would really love to meet her,” said Gordon. “I don’t remember much about what happened.

“I was out of it completely but I am incredibly happy as you can imagine. Without her, I doubt I would be here now.

“My friend, Ian, who I was cycling with, went back to the pub the next day to see if they knew who the woman was.

“So far no-one knows who she was. But I was told she drove a white BMW hatchback and put her car across the road to block the traffic.”

The Independent story has been shared more than 500 times and reached nearly 18,000 people on our Facebook page.

Local Hannah Kemp was quickly on the scene and she posted: “I’m so, so glad I’ve found some news on this man.

“I was first on scene and started the chest compressions until a very welcoming sight of a doctor turned up.

“I also hope his friend who he was with is ok as it was all a bit scary. I hope this man makes a full recovery and gets back on his bike asap.”

Junction landlord Barry Evans rang 999 after Gordon’s collapse while wife and landlady Christina raced across Ripponden Road to fetch the defibrillator from the Village Hall.

Are you the doctor or do you know the doctor who saved Gordon’s life? If so please contact the Saddleworth Independent in confidence and we will pass on any relevant information.
