A DATE has been set for Oldham Council’s Planning Committee to reconsider all four applications relating to the proposed new Saddleworth School in Diggle.
An ‘extraordinary’ meeting will consider only these matters in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, April 13 at 6pm.
The cross-party members will consider the applications to:
- Build the new Saddleworth School on the WH Shaw Pallets site in Diggle;
- Demolish existing buildings on the WH Shaw site, excluding the listed building
- Demolish the link bridge attached to the Grade II listed building on the WH Shaw site
- Provide a parental drop off area plus residential car parking as part of the wider highways scheme in Diggle.
The applications were first considered at a meeting on February 25 and were all approved by the committee.
However, just hours before that meeting a letter was received from objectors raising concerns, in relation to one application, about how much importance should be given to the effect of the proposals on the setting of the listed building.
Oldham Council subsequently sought external legal advice and decided to reconsider these applications at another special meeting.
The public can attend to observe proceedings and there is no need to book or signal an intention to attend.
The committee will again hear from one speaker for and one speaker against each separate application. A vote will be taken at the end of the discussion on each application.
