ECO-MINDED locals have until July 15 to apply for up to £500 towards their sustainability projects in the area.

The Saddleworth Hydro Sustainability Fund (SHSF) is providing the money as they look to help local projects get off the ground.
Saddleworth Community Hydro group designed and launched an innovative turbine at Dovestone Reservoir – the first high head system in England to use an existing dam.
Now, after they have been generating renewable electricity for two-and-a-half years, they are launching the Fund to help others turn their projects into realities.
Grants are available for up to £500 to local organisations with projects that will enhance sustainability in the Parish of Saddleworth and surrounding areas.
The group said: “We would particularly like applications that will enable young people to participate in activities concerning renewable energy, reduction of carbon emissions and climate change.
“This supports The Oldham Pledge, which seeks to ensure all Year 7 pupils will be able to contribute to environmental sustainability, amongst other things.
“However, we do not rule out other projects, including those where our grant is not the only source of funds.”
The Saddleworth Community Hydro opened the turbine house up to the public earlier this month as part of Community Energy Fortnight 2017.
