A DEDICATED fundraising group has raised a record £26,000 in just twelve months – more than making up for missing their target by just £500 the year before.
The Saddleworth Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild had hoped to hit £25,000 in 2014 but fell just short – but soared to success, and higher, at their next attempt.
They raised just over £26,000in 2015 by hosting a series of coffee mornings, open gardens, a quiz, their annual Cream Tea and more.
This means that over the past six years the Guild has raised more than £100,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, a charity which helps to save lives at sea.
Chairman Joan Halkyard said: “This doesn’t quite match the £8.5 million raised by the RNLI from the sale of two Ferraris a benefactor bequeathed to them!
“But it does pay tribute to the hard work and forward thinking of the Guild as they provide a varied programme of events which are a much valued feature of the Saddleworth scene and raise funds for such a worthy charity.”
And there is no slowing down for the generous Guild as they are launching straight into their busy 2016 calendar.
On Wednesday, March 23 there is a Coffee Morning at Uppermill Methodist Church from 10am-12noon followed on Wednesday, May 4 by a Manchester Waterways Cruise and Lunch.
On Thursday, May 26 they will hold their annual Open Garden Event, this year in Grasscroft courtesy of Rhoda Potts from 10am-12noon then 2pm-4pm.
All are invited to take part in the Cross-Morecambe Bay Walk on Sunday, June 12 or enjoy the sumptuous Annual Cream Tea at Uppermill Civic Hall on Tuesday, July 5 from 2pm-4pm.
Their Annual Lunch at the White Hart, Lydgate, will be held on Sunday, September 25, tickets cost £30 per person, arrival 1pm for 1.30pm meal.
There will be Coffee Mornings at Uppermill Methodist on Wednesday, October 26 then Saturday, November 12, both from 10am-12noon.
And the year ends with their popular Quiz Night at Greenfield Conservative Club on Friday, November 18, starting at 7.30pm.
