Delicious delights at The Diggle

A MOUTH-WATERING menu of nightly specials has been launched at an historic public house in Diggle as the new landlords look to give it a fresh lease of life.

Angie and Billy O’Reilly at The Diggle Hotel are running the delicious offers throughout the week as well as holding regular quizzes to entertain customers after taking over last month.

From Monday to Thursday, two meals for £12 are available for early bird diners between 5-7pm with Monday’s theme ‘Pie Night’ followed by ‘Curry Night’ on Tuesdays.

Wednesday sees fish on the menu during the same hours, while Thursday is Quiz Night to keep the locals guesses over their suppers.

And on Fridays ‘Steak Night’ offers customers the chance to choose two items off the grill to enjoy with a free bottle of wine.

There is an appetising drinks menu to match, featuring regular ales Millstones Brewery Tiger Rut, Copper Dragon, and Black Sheep as well as guest beers.

The new menu comes as part of a revamp of the pub, with Angie’s other plans for her new premises including updating the bar area and developing a homely feel with coal fires.

She said: “We will do it up gradually and I’ve got lots of ideas for getting the place to feel and look how it should do. We are excited and really looking forward to it.”

In pride in place behind the bar will be Angie’s beloved mirror engraved with ‘Reilly’s Bar’, which she first hung in the Granby Arms in Uppermill almost two decades ago.

The Diggle Hotel, which is in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, also hosts monthly brass band nights, and is already signed up to be part of the annual Diggle Blues festival in June.

And to round off a visit, the hotel offers four bedrooms – a double, a family room and two twins – to give weary customers a perfect night’s rest.

Meanwhile, husband Billy continues to welcome customers at the Cross Keys in Uppermill, which the duo has run for almost three years.

The Diggle Hotel is open 11am-11.30pm on weekdays, and until 12midight on Saturdays and Sundays. Food is served 12noon-8.30pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and 12noon-7.30pm on Sundays. To find out more, ring 01457 872741.
