Denshaw hotel’s kitchen targeted for conversion in apartments plan

A SADDLEWORTH hotel’s kitchen will be converted into eight apartments if planning permission is granted.

The former Clough Manor site, now known as W.Apart Hotel, in Denshaw, has been at the centre of much conjecture and speculation.

Now the firm Saddleworth Holdings Ltd has applied to Oldham Council to extend part of the building by a total of five-and-a-half per cent and place living accommodation where the kitchen is.

Four apartments would be on the ground floor with four on the first of what would be a higher structure, which would have a pitched roof.

The Clough Manor site, on Rochdale Road, has been the cause of local concerns, particularly among people living in Denshaw as it offers emergency and temporary housing.

However, Kirkham Property Management, a separate firm to the main Kirkham Property Estate Agency, spelled out its view to Saddleworth Independent.

It said: “We and the owners/operators have encountered a substantial amount of criticism for the current use, which is a little sad considering the hotel is providing a greatly needed service at the moment in times which are being described by some as a ‘housing crisis.’

“There has been speculation and a rather large social media coverage of the whole site, of which we have control only over the building and car park areas.

“But some various aggrieved parties have unknowingly bundled all perceived issues across the whole site, which is unfortunate.”

Oldham Council’s Planning Committee will decide whether to grant or refuse planning permission.
