Diggle FC to sport red poppies on kit for Remembrance Weekend

DIGGLE FOOTBALL Club will sport red poppies on their kits on Saturday, November 8 to commemorate Remembrance Day and raise funds for the Poppy Appeal.p16 diggle fc poppies for kits

All three of the amateur club’s teams will wear the adhesive poppies on their playing shirts after teaming up with the poppies4kits appeal to support the Royal British Legion.

The national Poppies4kits project was launched earlier this year with a target of raising £10,000 – which was smashed by mid-October after attracting a huge social media following.

Diggle FC manager Richard Devy commented: “When we first saw the scheme on Twitter a couple of months ago, we thought it would be a great way of showing our support and helping to raise funds.

“All the players are looking forward to pulling on their Diggle shirt and wearing their poppy with pride – it will be a great honour.”

The club will also be holding a minute’s silence before their games as a mark of respect to all fallen servicemen and women as 2014 marks the 100-year anniversary since the First World War.

Diggle’s home fixtures on Saturday, November 8 see the club host two cup ties at Churchill Playing Fields. The First team entertain Netherton FC in the Barlow Cup while the Reserves play a Richardson Cup tie against Newsome FC Reserves.

Both games kick off at 1.45pm and the club urges any local support to get down to watch the matches, show your respect and wear your Poppies with pride.
