Diggle gathers for Village Harvest Festival Service to help homeless

YOUNG AND old braved the cold to gather at Diggle Allotments for the annual Village Harvest Festival Service, hosted by Kilngreen Church.

The service was led by Reverend Duncan Rhodes and included entertainment from Diggle B Brass band and the local uniformed organisations.

The Beavers sang a song about Harvest Time accompanied by Diggle ‘B’ Band and Rainbows delivered a ‘Washing Line’ Prayer, pegging up their hand-drawn produce on a washing line as a prayer of thanks was given by their leaders.

Brownies acted out the ‘Stone Soup’ story having adapted the script to make it intriguing and interactive, while the Scouts and the 2200 DF (Saddleworth) Air Cadets were also in attendance.

Food donations will go to The Booth Centre for homeless people in Manchester and a retiring collection was taken for the Christian Aid Refugee Emergency Relief Fund.
