A KIND-HEARTED Diggler is encouraging locals to join her to help say ‘pants to poverty’.
Janet Iles organised a unique coffee morning at Kiln Green Church last month where guests were invited to take along a donation of underwear to help a charity appeal.
‘Smalls for All’, founded in 2010, collects knickers and bras to send to poorer women and children in Africa living in slums, orphanages, IDP camps, and to schools and hospitals.
Janet explained: “Children can’t go to school sometimes without knickers and women can get molested more often when they are not wearing underwear.
“People have been very generous and these donations will be a massive help.”
Janet presented a bouquet of flowers to guest Suzanne Bradshaw, who brought along 400 items of underwear which were donated by a top retailer through Judy Austin from Diggle.
And £55 was raised on the raffle, which will help towards the postage to send all the underwear to Scotland, where the charity is based, to be sorted and shipped.
Do you want to ‘show us your knickers’ and help the charity appeal? All bras and new underwear are accepted. For more details ring Janet: 01457 877875.
