YOU WOULD be forgiven for thinking there was a fashion show going on at Saddleworth School as t-shirts, jumpers, socks and trousers were piled high in the reception…
But it was actually generous pupils donating hundreds of items to send to Lighthouse Relief, a volunteer social enterprise which provides relief for refugees arriving in Lesvos, Greece.
Organised by RE teacher Miss Jen Draper, pupils from all year groups got involved with the clothes drive over two weeks.

Year 7 had a competition to see which form could collect the most socks while Year 8 pupils did the same with t-shirts, with more than 100 donated by Gabriel Payne and his family.
All the items were taken home by Miss Draper, who sorted and packaged them ready to be transported to Lesvos when Year 10 pupils have collected enough through fundraising.
Miss Draper said: “The pupils did a great job! We were absolutely inundated with items and I drove home every night with a boot full.
“My aunt and cousin have done work out in Lesvos and I did a collection a while ago. The problems are not going away and this will go a long way to helping the refugees.”
