Dobcross Brass Monkeys are looking for a new player to fill a key role of ‘tuned percussionist’.
The adult learner Brass Band has been established for a few years and have gone from strength to strength with players enjoying learning to play an instrument and read music.
They still have some cornet vacancies but now are also looking for a ‘tuned percussionist’ to join their ranks.
Conductor Phil Cumberworth explained: “Choosing a new skill in later life is very rewarding and any activity that drags a person away from TV and computer screens can’t be a bad thing.
“Although we still have some cornet vacancies, what we also need is a tuned percussionist. That is someone who plays all the plinky plonky stuff such as glockenspiels, xylophones, vibraphones and tubular bells.
“Now if you are a keyboard player and can read music you may never have considered this as a new challenge.
“The position is ideal for such a person, particularly if you have only ever played alone and longed to make music as part of a group.
“We are a really friendly band and enjoy a very varied selection of music. And for would-be drummers we’ve more tackle than you could throw a drumstick at.”
