Donkey delight for all the family down at The Sanctuary

THE Donkey Sanctuary Manchester has the festive season all wrapped up with its Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 7 and Candlelight Evening on Wednesday, December 11.The free family Fair (10am to 3pm) at the Gorton-based centre is a good way to get into the festive spirit, do some Christmas shopping, and meet the resident donkeys.

Visitors will also find Donkey World gifts plus a tombola, bric-a-brac, raffle, and lots more besides.

Younger members of the family can enjoy the craft activities and have their face painted and pay a visit to Santa in his grotto.

There will be the opportunity to interact with the resident donkeys and find out more about the equine-assisted activities they all deliver at The Donkey Sanctuary.

Visitors will be able learn how staff and volunteers care for the donkeys and meet adoption donkeys Tiny Tim and Henry.

Adopting a donkey enables the charity to continue its work in the local community and across the world.

Homemade seasonal food will be available throughout the day and a cake stall offers visitors the chance to take a treat home.

Entry to the Christmas Fair is free, with free parking at Wright Robinson College.

The Christmas carol promises a wonderful evening for the whole family, surrounded by the Sanctuary’s donkeys.

Doors open at 6pm with light refreshments including homemade soup, non-alcoholic mulled wine and mince pies.

The evening commences at 6.30pm as youngsters from the Abbey Hey Children’s Choir take to the stage.

The children will be followed by a traditional telling of the Nativity story and a Christmas Carol sing-along, with music provided by the ukulele band.

The evening will conclude with a “goodnight” to the donkeys,’ followed by the lighting of a Candle of Remembrance.

All proceeds help fund the work of The Donkey Sanctuary in the community and worldwide.
